This is a great alternative to plain white rice, made this on 17 Sep 2018, and this was very well liked by the family.

Equipment

  • Rice Cooker

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • ¼ cup fresh dill, finely chopped, or 2 tablespoons dry
  • 1 cup dry white rice, rinsed
  • 2 cups water
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

  • Add everything except the water to your rice cooker, mix together to coat the rice with oil and everything is mixed in well.
  • Stir in the water, cover, and press Cook. When the cooker switches to Warm, open, fluff with a fork and serve as a side dish.

Notes

Variant: 1. Add ½ teaspoon of chicken stock powder to the first items added to the cooker.
  1. I made this for my parents in TN on 26 Nov 2019, but used dried dill. Although it was good, it was not a stand out side dish for them or even me. In the future I will only use fresh dill.

Love the flavor of dill in this rice! Just gives it that little something extra.

    • Thanks Sammy for the comment, yes, when I started cooking seasoned rices, 9 times out of 10, mother in law pushes aside the plain rice. Seasoned is easy to make, even just vegetable stock is a bonus. And thank you for giving me the confidence to cook more than 1 cup of dry rice in my tiny rice cooker, and mother in law finished off the last of the dill rice yesterday, she actually asks me to make seasoned rice for her 🙂

Excellent rice! The dill is not overpowering, but the black pepper was an interesting addition and a flavorful and tasty rice dish. I did use the variant as well.
