I like chicken hearts, and this is a simple and easy meal to put together. I made this on 12 Dec 2017 as a way to use up some chicken hearts I had in the freezer, and this gives me an idea for a base recipe for leftovers as well. Link to the shortcut is listed in the Recipe Notes section.

Figure about 50 Baht for the chicken hearts. For 2 servings, this is about 74 cents per serving.

Shortcut: Gravy Mix.

I just winged this and it turned out great, Lee Thayer.

  1. Butter your slow cooker insert, place the cubed chicken on the bottom of the insert.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, add the soup, gravy packets, parsley, garlic powder, and the stock, whisk to combine. Pour this over the chicken, cover and cook on Low setting for 4 to 6 hours.
  3. At the 4 hour mark, check the tenderness of the chicken, if tender, go ahead cook the egg noodles in a pot of salted boiling water to just before tender, drain well then add to the slow cooker and mix them in, add a bit of water if needed, make sure the noodles are submerged in the sauce. IF the chicken is not tender, wait an hour, check the tenderness, if ok, proceed with the cooking the noodles as stated above and go from there.
Recipe Notes

The chicken will cost about 70 Baht/kilo. You can use white or dark or a combination of the two. For 8 servings, this is about 26 cents per serving.

Shortcuts: Condensed Cream of Chicken Soup, Chicken Gravy Mix.

Variant: 1. Use turkey in place of chicken.

This is a quick to put together meal with only 3 ingredients and two you can make from shortcuts for cost savings. I made this yesterday 14 Sep 2017 and used bone in pork chops I found in Tesco, thick cut as well, and wow is this good! I think thick cut pork loin would equally as well. Links to the shortcuts are listed in the Recipe Notes section.

Instructions
  1. Lightly butter the slow cooker insert. Place chops in the slow cooker.
  2. Sprinkle chops with the ranch dressing mix.
  3. Pour the gravy over the top. Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours. Do not remove the lid before 6 hours, check for tenderness, if tender, serve, if not continue cooking until 7 or 8 hours.
  4. Serve with mashed potatoes and gravy from the slow cooker and a vegetable for a complete meal.
Recipe Notes

The pork chops I found at Tesco, thick cut, bone in, 250 grams each, were 160 Baht each making this about $4.70 per serving but these are so good I will make this once every 3 months, when I go to the city for my address report, I will look in Makro for these and the cost should be less. I will also test this recipe with just thick cut pork loin, which would make this a low cost meal.

Shortcuts: Ranch Dressing Mix, Chicken Gravy.
